ARTIST STATEMENT

The inspiration for my paintings can come from such broad themes as freedom, truth or a personal mining of my past experience leading to a never ending path of self discovery. I am influenced by abstract painters of the twentieth century, current events, music and politics. Through the use of color, form, texture and composition, I attempt to convey my thoughts and emotions. I have transitioned from oil painter to mixed media artist. The materials I now use include acrylic, charcoal, pastel, pencil, watercolor, crayon, gouache, newsprint and collage to create my abstract compositions. My most recent paintings containing words or phrases invite the viewer to stop, look, think and respond.
